Give to Gain
The International Women’s Day is one for women globally to reflect on the past and move into the future with resolve; as the theme ‘Give to Gain’ sets the pace. I therefore wish to congratulate and thank H.E. Kaguta Yoweri Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda and his government for the affirmative action that birthed the Ministry of Gender. I thank him for protecting women socially and economically. This has given the women of Uganda the opportunity to rise from grass to grace. Some mothers have raised and educated their children single handedly giving them an opportunity in life. Many women have acquired education, knowledge and skills that have opened up space for public employment and participation.
Women Foreign Service Officers are therefore challenged by the theme “Give to Gain”. As the women’s anthem calls us the proud mothers of the nation, what pride have we given to each other? How are we empowering, grooming and enabling the human resource capital to grow into more productive citizens? A genuine smile alone is enough gain to those who receive it. To what extent have you given in terms of guidance and encouragement not only for the country but also for the entire global village to gain. Such actions bring more gains to a nation.
As a family matriarch, what have you given to those around you and within your proximity? Have you given them peace or are you a source of conflict, disharmony and discord? How does your light radiate for others to gain? Indeed, St Francis of Assisi said that it is in giving that we receive. Let’s be challenged to give in order to gain.
