May 2026 was a month of significant national milestones, strategic partnerships, and sustained diplomatic engagement. As Uganda continues to navigate a rapidly evolving regional and global landscape, the developments captured in this edition reflect our focus on transforming opportunities into tangible outcomes for our people.

A defining moment was during the inauguration of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for a new term of office. The occasion brought together regional leaders, representatives of international organizations, members of the diplomatic community, and development partners, reaffirming Uganda’s place within an interconnected global community. The President’s call for a “Kisanja, No More Sleep” underscored a renewed emphasis on wealth creation, value addition, industrialization, job creation and the expansion of economic opportunities for all citizens.

Across the diplomatic front, Uganda’s foreign policy continues to be increasingly shaped by economic and commercial diplomacy. Our Missions abroad remained actively engaged in promoting trade, investment, tourism, technology transfer, and market access. From Uganda’s participation at the Canton Fair in China to diaspora engagement initiatives in Malawi and tourism promotion activities linked to the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE 2026), the country’s diplomatic footprint is steadily advancing national development priorities.

Regional cooperation also featured prominently in May with bilateral engagements from neighbouring countries and strategic partners reinforcing the value of dialogue, mutual respect, and collaboration in addressing shared interests. Discussions on trade, infrastructure connectivity, peace and security, natural resource management, and cross-border mobility demonstrated the growing importance of regional integration as a driver of sustainable development and prosperity.

This issue commemorates an important milestone: 50 years of relations between Uganda and the European Union. The EU Day Celebration reflects a partnership that has matured over time, evolving from traditional development cooperation into a broad-based engagement encompassing trade, investment, education, climate action, governance, and innovation.

Beyond policy and statecraft, we celebrate the people and stories that give diplomacy its human face. Our special feature on Uganda’s Ambassador to the BENELUX and the Hague, Mirjam Blaak, offers reflections from a distinguished career dedicated to service, resilience, and international engagement. We also highlight the contribution of tourism, culture, and sports in strengthening Uganda’s global visibility, from POATE 2026 and the River Nile documentaries to the remarkable achievements of Uganda’s athletes on the international stage.
