Uganda and Israel Reaffirm Strategic Defence Partnership at High-Level Meeting

Entebbe, Uganda – His Excellency Gideon Behar Israel Ambassador to Uganda held discussions with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, in Entebbe. The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Uganda and Israel.

During the discussions, General Kainerugaba described Uganda–Israel relations as “a solid rock,” emphasising the enduring friendship between the two nations. He noted that Uganda and Israel have cooperated as close partners for many decades, particularly in areas of mutual strategic interest, and expressed confidence that the relationship will continue to deepen in the years ahead.

The engagement reflects a continuing pattern of high-level interactions between the two countries. General Kainerugaba has previously held meetings with Israel’s former ambassador to Uganda, underscoring a shared commitment to enhancing diplomatic and security cooperation. Amb. Behar, who presented his credentials to President Yoweri Museveni at the end of February, was accompanied by his wife, Eke Behar, and the Honorary Consul of Israel to Uganda, Ishta Asiimwe Kuteesa Muganga. He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Uganda in areas such as defence, agriculture, innovation, and capacity building.

Uganda and Israel maintain strong bilateral relations across multiple sectors, including security cooperation, agricultural development, water management, and technology transfer. Israeli expertise in innovation and modern agricultural techniques has contributed to several collaborative initiatives aimed at improving productivity and strengthening food security in Uganda.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and partnership in addressing regional security challenges, as well as promoting stability and sustainable development. The growing partnership between Uganda and Israel is further reinforced by strong interpersonal relations among their leaders and regular high-level engagements, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing mutual interests.
