Shanghai, China – Uganda highlighted its expanding trade, agriculture, and tourism potential at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2025, held from November 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. The country’s presence at the global trade platform was jointly coordinated by the Embassy of Uganda in Beijing, the Consulate General in Guangzhou, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
Uganda exhibited under the national theme, “Nurturing Agriculture, Enriching Tourism, Sharing Prosperity,” reflecting the country’s focus on agricultural productivity, tourism development, and inclusive economic growth. The Uganda Pavilion attracted strong attention from expo visitors, with traditional dance performances, freshly brewed Ugandan coffee, and interactive displays showcasing the nation’s rich cultural and economic offerings.
A major highlight of the opening day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and Cotti Coffee (China) Ltd. The agreement is expected to strengthen cooperation between Uganda and China, particularly in expanding the coffee value chain, improving market access, and boosting agro-industrial investment.
Uganda’s delegation comprised officials from the agriculture, trade, and tourism sectors alongside private-sector exhibitors such as Bayaaya Coffee, Kimco Coffee, Seedstar Coffee, Inspire Coffee, Noble Choice, MICE Uganda, and Let’s Go Travel, which showcased Uganda’s premium coffee brands, agricultural products, and tourism destinations.
The 2025 CIIE has drawn exhibitors from 155 countries and regions, with more than 4,000 overseas companies participating across 430,000 square meters of exhibition space. Uganda’s participation is being viewed as a strategic effort to deepen bilateral ties, promote investment, and enhance global visibility for Ugandan products.
Ambassador Oliver Wonekha stated that Uganda’s involvement reaffirms the country’s strong partnership with China and its commitment to expanding collaboration in key economic sectors.
