Bagiire Vincent Waiswa - Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda

As we welcome 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its warmest greetings to our diplomatic partners, international institutions, and friends of Uganda around the world. This New Year offers a moment to reflect on the milestones of the past while renewing our shared commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable development in an interconnected and dynamic global environment.

Uganda enters 2026 with resilience, purpose, and continuity. As the country approaches its general elections within a constitutional and peaceful framework, the Government of Uganda reaffirms its unwavering commitment to security, the rule of law, and the democratic process. Institutions remain robust, and state mechanisms are fully mobilized to ensure a safe, orderly, and transparent electoral environment. This steadfast approach underscores Uganda’s role as a reliable and stable partner in both regional and international affairs.

Guided by Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV), our foreign policy is shaped by clear strategic priorities. Economic and Commercial Diplomacy will continue to drive trade, investment, tourism, and innovation-led partnerships that highlight Uganda’s potential as a competitive and opportunity-rich destination. Climate diplomacy will remain central, with Uganda championing sustainable environmental stewardship, climate adaptation, and equitable green financing initiatives. Through continued engagement in peacekeeping and regional security cooperation, Uganda upholds its longstanding reputation as a stabilizing actor in the Great Lakes Region and beyond.

Strengthened diaspora engagement further amplifies Uganda’s global voice, fostering knowledge transfer, investment, and cultural connections that reinforce our national development agenda.

Uganda’s Missions to the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and other multilateral institutions will continue to advance principled multilateralism, collaboration, and partnerships that promote inclusive growth, human security, and shared prosperity. Cultural Diplomacy and tourism promotion will remain key avenues for projecting Uganda’s unique heritage, natural beauty, and openness to the world.

Uganda’s Diplomatic Service looks forward to 2026 with confidence and optimism, guided by a vision of peaceful governance, vibrant international engagement, and sustainable national growth. We value the enduring trust of our international partners and reaffirm our commitment to fostering constructive collaboration that delivers tangible results for both Uganda and the global community.

Happy New Year!
