Kampala, Uganda – H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held cordial bilateral talks with the British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E Amb. Lisa Chesney, in a meeting aimed at deepening the longstanding partnership between Uganda and the United Kingdom. The discussions, held at State Lodge Nakasero on April 29, 2026, were also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Ashley Wiseman, the British Defence Attaché to Uganda, and Mr. Nigel Holmes, Political Counsellor at the British Embassy.

The engagement underscored the shared commitment of both countries to advancing strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, security, education, tourism and regional stability. President Museveni emphasised Uganda’s readiness to continue strengthening collaboration with the United Kingdom, particularly in sectors that support economic transformation, industrialisation and job creation.

The meeting further explored opportunities for expanding commercial partnerships and promoting sustainable development initiatives that can enhance prosperity for the people of both nations. Discussions also touched on regional peace and security, with both sides reaffirming the importance of dialogue, cooperation and collective action in addressing emerging global and regional challenges.

High Commissioner Chesney reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic and economic ties with Uganda, noting the value of continued engagement in fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. She commended Uganda’s strategic role in regional peacebuilding and economic integration within East Africa. The bilateral talks reflected the enduring friendship between Uganda and the United Kingdom and highlighted the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in promoting shared growth, stability and international cooperation in an evolving global landscape.
