Belgrade, Serbia – Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to global engagement while participating in the 2nd International Participants Meeting (IPM) for Expo 2027 Belgrade, held from 10–12 March 2026. The meeting was part of ongoing preparations for the global exposition, which will take place from May to August 2027 under the theme “Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All.”
The Ugandan delegation was led by the State Minister for Trade, Gen. Wilson Mbadi Mbasu, and included key government officials and diplomats. Among them were Ambassador Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, Odrek Mugisha Rwabwogo, Chairperson of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development, and David Katungi, Section Commissioner for the Uganda Pavilion and Senior Manager for Export Development and Promotion at the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority. Other officials from government institutions and Uganda’s diplomatic mission were also part of the delegation. The IPM brought together representatives from over 120 countries and international organizations to coordinate preparations for the Expo. Discussions focused on updates regarding the Expo site, pavilion development, thematic programming, and operational planning.
A key highlight for Uganda during the meeting was the signing of the Participation Contract, which officially confirmed the country’s involvement in Expo 2027. This milestone marks a significant step in Uganda’s readiness to showcase its potential on the global stage.
On the side-lines of the meeting, Uganda’s delegation engaged in bilateral talks with Serbian officials to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties. These discussions aimed to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and broader economic development.
Uganda’s participation offers a valuable platform to promote its cultural heritage, creative industries, and investment opportunities while contributing to global dialogue through sport and music.
