Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has joined Ugandans and the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, paying tribute to the invaluable contributions of women and girls across the country. In his message delivered by H.E. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo the Vice President, President Museveni expressed deep appreciation for the central role women play in shaping families, strengthening communities, and driving national development. He emphasised that women are key pillars of society whose efforts continue to support Uganda’s social and economic progress.
The President noted that International Women’s Day is not only a moment of celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of women and recognise the challenges that still exist. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging the dedication, resilience, and hard work demonstrated by women in various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, business, and public service. The president further encouraged continued efforts towards empowering women and promoting gender equality. He stressed the need for collective action to ensure that women and girls are given equal opportunities to succeed and contribute fully to national development. According to the President, building an inclusive society where women can thrive is essential for sustainable progress.
In addition, he extended his best wishes to all women across Uganda, calling for a meaningful celebration of the day. He urged citizens to honor the achievements of women while also supporting initiatives that uplift and protect their rights. International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, serves as a global platform to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also highlights the ongoing efforts required to achieve gender equality worldwide.
As Uganda marks the occasion, President Museveni’s message reinforces the importance of recognising women’s contributions and continuing the journey toward empowerment and equality. His remarks serve as a reminder that the progress of the nation is closely linked to the advancement of women, and that inclusive development can only be achieved when women are fully supported and valued in every aspect of society.
