London, UK – Uganda officially became the 26th nation to join the Invictus Community, making it only the second African country to join the global movement that supports the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through sport. The country also confirmed its participation in the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, where Team Uganda will make its debut.

The milestone followed a series of engagements between Uganda and the Invictus Games Foundation, including an exploratory visit to Uganda and a subsequent visit by a Ugandan delegation to London to learn from the United Kingdom’s experience in using sport as a tool for recovery. 

To support the initiative, the Foundation awarded Uganda an initial development grant of £15,000 to establish its first sport for recovery programmes. The development marked an important step in advancing the welfare of Uganda’s wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to resilience, rehabilitation and international cooperation through sport.
