Kampala, Uganda – Ugandan officials and members of the diplomatic corps gathered at the Iranian Embassy in Kampala to sign a condolence book in honour of the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as Iranian political officials, military commanders, and civilians who lost their lives in the recent attacks. In a note addressed to Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions, and international organisations, the Iranian Embassy described the strikes as a “barbaric military aggression” against the sovereignty and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The embassy stated that the attacks, which it said were launched during the holy month of Ramadan, resulted in the deaths of senior officials and hundreds of civilians, including more than 200 schoolgirls. Ayatollah Khamenei had led Iran since 1989, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in the Middle East. As Supreme Leader, he served as the country’s highest political and religious authority, with ultimate control over the armed forces, the judiciary, and key state institutions.

His death marks a significant turning point for Iran and the wider region, coming at a time of heightened tensions involving Tehran, Washington, and Tel Aviv. The strikes further escalated geopolitical tensions and reportedly triggered retaliatory actions by Iranian forces against American and Israeli assets in the region. The embassy concluded its message by renewing assurances of its highest consideration to Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all accredited diplomatic and international missions.
