Kampala, Uganda – Uganda and the Czech Republic reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during a high-level meeting between H.E. Nicol Adamcova and Hon. John Mulimba Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation at the ministry headquarters. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Stephen Kaboyo, reflecting the growing depth of diplomatic and institutional engagement between the two countries.

The visit coincided with the conclusion of the EU-supported PanAfGeo+ initiative, a programme focused on strengthening geological capacity, skills development, and mineral exploration. The project has brought together Ugandan technical experts and specialists from the Czech Geological Survey, contributing to knowledge transfer and institutional strengthening within Uganda’s extractives sector.

Discussions also explored opportunities for expanded academic collaboration, particularly in petroleum and geothermal studies with Makerere University. A proposed framework envisions joint undergraduate and postgraduate training, including foundational studies in Uganda followed by advanced specialization in the Czech Republic. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to building local expertise capable of supporting sustainable resource management.

Beyond academia, the dialogue highlighted prospects for private sector engagement in energy and infrastructure development. Ongoing partnerships, including hydropower projects led by Czech firms, were noted as practical examples of mutually beneficial cooperation. In parallel, emerging collaboration in defence and aviation underscored the strategic dimension of bilateral relations, with recent engagements focused on training and transport capabilities.

Hon. Mulimba emphasised Uganda’s priority on value addition in agriculture and minerals, underscoring the importance of technology transfer in unlocking economic transformation. Both sides acknowledged that strengthening domestic capacity to assess and process natural resources would enhance transparency and long-term development outcomes. Additional areas of cooperation included scientific collaboration in wildlife conservation and ongoing discussions on trade facilitation, including taxation frameworks and market access. The meeting concluded on a note of mutual respect and shared purpose, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to advancing a partnership grounded in trust, knowledge exchange, and sustainable economic growth.
