Ottawa, Canada – A two-day Canada-Uganda Business Forum opened in Ottawa under the theme “Strengthening Bilateral Trade, Investment, and Tourism Partnerships.” The forum aimed to catalyse deeper economic collaboration by bringing together key stakeholders, investors, industrialists, government officials, and traders from both countries. Discussions focus on expanding opportunities in four priority sectors Agriculture, Tourism, Mining & Energy, and Science & Technology (ATMS) which continue to be central to Uganda’s economic transformation agenda.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa underscored Uganda’s readiness to welcome Canadian investors, describing the country as a land of beauty, stability, and abundant opportunity. He highlighted Uganda’s fertile soils, year-round favourable climate, vast mineral deposits, youthful workforce, and strategic access to major regional markets within the East African Community (EAC) and COMESA. Hon. Bagiire emphasised that these advantages position Uganda as a highly competitive and sustainable destination for investment and long-term business growth.
He further noted that Uganda’s government has prioritised creating an enabling investment environment through incentives, reforms, and partnerships that support private-sector expansion. He encouraged Canadian investors to explore opportunities not only in traditional sectors but also in emerging fields such as renewable energy, digital innovation, agro-processing, and tourism development.
Mayor Brown commended the strong foundation laid by Amb. Allan Kajik, the Acting High Commissioner at the Uganda High Commission in Ottawa, for strengthening Canada–Uganda relations. He urged Canadian businesses to “step out and explore Uganda,” expressing full support for initiatives aimed at boosting two-way trade, investment, and tourism flows between the two countries.
The forum included business-to-business engagements, sector-specific presentations, and networking sessions designed to build lasting partnerships and unlock new avenues of cooperation.
