Kampala, Uganda – Hon. Adonia Ayebare, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, received copies of Letters of Credence from H.E. Sigrid Ingelore Luise Sommer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Uganda and Germany maintain broad-based relations anchored in development cooperation, trade and investment, education and skills development, environmental protection, climate action, sustainable development and people-to-people exchanges.
Hon. Ayebare welcomed Ambassador Sommer to Uganda and expressed the Government’s readiness to work closely with her and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in advancing the interests shared by the two countries. The Minister underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in consolidating the existing partnership and translating bilateral commitments into tangible outcomes for the people of Uganda and Germany.
During her tour of duty in Uganda, Ambassador Sommer is expected to work closely with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders to further deepen bilateral cooperation and identify new areas of partnership. Her tenure comes at an important time as Uganda continues to strengthen its international partnerships in pursuit of its development priorities and economic transformation agenda.
The two countries also continue to explore opportunities for expanding economic and commercial engagement, particularly through increased trade, investment and private-sector partnerships. Uganda seeks to leverage its strategic position in the East African region, abundant natural resources, agricultural potential and growing market opportunities to attract investment and strengthen its economic partnerships with Germany and other European partners.
Germany remains an important development and economic partner for Uganda, with cooperation focused on supporting sustainable development, strengthening institutional capacity and creating opportunities that contribute to inclusive economic growth and improved livelihoods.
