As Dean of the African Diplomatic Group, the Uganda Mission in Algeria coordinated and joined fellow African diplomatic missions in commemorating Africa Day 2026 at the Palais de la Culture Moufdi Zakaria under the theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” The event brought together diplomats, government officials, cultural representatives and members of the African community in Algiers to celebrate African unity, solidarity and the continent’s collective aspirations for sustainable development and prosperity.
Speaking on behalf of the African Missions, John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu commended Algeria’s enduring Pan-Africanist commitment and its contributions toward advancing regional cooperation across the continent. He praised Algeria’s cross-border support in the fields of education, youth empowerment and innovation, while also recognizing its role in promoting economic integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
Ambassador Nsambu further called for renewed continental resolve towards completing the decolonisation of the remaining colonised territories in Africa, emphasizing the importance of unity, sovereignty and collective action in shaping the continent’s future. He noted that Africa Day remains a symbol of resilience and a reminder of the shared responsibility to build a peaceful, integrated and economically empowered Africa.
Representing the Algerian government, Bendouda reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to African unity and cooperation. The minister highlighted culture, heritage and youth as central pillars for Africa’s collective future and pledged continued collaboration with fellow African nations in advancing the aspirations of African Union Agenda 2063. The celebrations also featured cultural exhibitions and diplomatic showcases from various African missions. Delegations toured all embassy booths, including Uganda’s, where Julius Joshua Kivuna, Deputy Head of Mission, welcomed guests and presented Uganda’s rich cultural and culinary heritage.
Uganda’s exhibition attracted significant interest, with visitors sampling traditional delicacies such as Rolex, Matooke, Samosas and Mandazi. The vibrant showcase reflected Uganda’s cultural diversity and reinforced the spirit of African unity, friendship and shared heritage that defined the Africa Day 2026 celebrations.
