The Uganda High Commission in Canada has launched a Destination Uganda branded double-decker bus in Ottawa, marking a major step in efforts to promote tourism and cultural heritage in the Canadian market.

The unveiling ceremony, held on June 1, 2026, attracted representatives from Global Affairs Canada, members of the tourism and media sectors, the Ugandan diaspora, and key project partners. The event highlighted Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its tourism profile and attracting more international visitors. The branded bus features striking images of Uganda’s iconic mountain gorillas, diverse wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and the renowned Rwenzori Marathon, set to operate along major routes across Ottawa from June to October 2026. The embassy estimates that the campaign will generate between one and two million impressions, providing significant exposure for Uganda as a leading travel destination.

Speaking at the launch, Amb Allan Kajik, Uganda’s Charge d’Affaires at the High Commission described the initiative as more than just a transport campaign, saying the double-decker bus symbolises the country’s unique story, national identity, and rich tourism experience. “The bus represents more than a mode of transport; it is a moving showcase of Uganda’s culture, natural beauty and hospitality,” the envoy noted. The campaign is expected to increase awareness of Uganda’s tourism offerings among Canadians and encourage travel to the East African nation, which is renowned for its biodiversity, adventure tourism and vibrant cultural traditions.

Guests who attended the launch were treated to an immersive cultural experience that showcased Uganda’s heritage. Traditional dance performances added colour to the event, while authentic Ugandan cuisine offered visitors a taste of the country’s culinary diversity. Tourism stakeholders and members of the Ugandan community in Canada welcomed the initiative, describing it as an innovative approach to destination marketing and public diplomacy. The campaign also provides an opportunity to strengthen people-to-people ties and deepen cultural exchanges between Uganda and Canada.

The “Destination Uganda” bus campaign forms part of broader efforts by the Uganda High Commission to position Uganda as a premier tourism destination and increase its visibility on the international stage. By bringing Uganda’s landscapes, wildlife and culture directly to the streets of Ottawa, officials hope to inspire more Canadians to discover what has often been described as the “Pearl of Africa.” The campaign will run until October 2026, continuing to promote Uganda’s attractions to millions of residents and visitors across Canada’s capital.
