BERLIN, GERMANY
The Uganda Embassy Berlin hosted Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of the Buganda Kingdom, during a high-level courtesy call aimed at strengthening collaboration between Uganda’s diplomatic institutions and cultural leadership in advancing the country’s interests abroad. The meeting, held at the Embassy premises in Berlin, was received by H.E. Ambassador Stephen Mubiru, Head of Mission, alongside Ambassador Danny Ssozi, Deputy Head of Mission. Also in attendance were Mr. Joseph Kawuki, Minister of Local Government, Royal Travels and Buganda Kingdom Affairs Abroad, Embassy staff, representatives of the Buganda community, and leaders from the Ugandan diaspora in Germany.
Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, tourism, education, and cultural exchange between Uganda and Germany. The engagement also explored ways of strengthening partnerships with the Ugandan diaspora community as an important pillar in promoting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and international visibility. Ambassador Mubiru welcomed Owek. Mayiga and commended the continued role of the Buganda Kingdom in preserving Uganda’s rich cultural heritage while supporting national development initiatives. He noted that cultural diplomacy remains an important instrument in enhancing people-to-people relations, promoting tourism, and creating economic opportunities for Ugandans abroad.
Owek. Mayiga, who is in Berlin to attend the Buganda Bumu European Convention, appreciated the Embassy for its dedication and continued service to Ugandans living in Germany. He emphasised the importance of unity among Ugandans abroad, preservation of cultural identity, and building strategic partnerships that contribute to positively positioning Uganda on the global stage. He further highlighted the growing significance of cultural institutions in complementing government efforts to attract investment, strengthen tourism promotion, and foster stronger international cooperation through shared heritage and values. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment between Uganda’s diplomatic missions and cultural institutions to advancing Uganda’s development agenda through cooperation, cultural diplomacy, and meaningful international engagement.
