Kampala, Uganda – On the 25th of April 2026, Margaret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a productive meeting with Heejo Choi, Chargé D’Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, to review ongoing cooperation and explore new areas of engagement between Uganda and the Republic of Korea.
The discussions focused on the significant role played by Korean Official Development Assistance (ODA) in supporting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. Both sides acknowledged Korea’s sustained and long-term commitment to Uganda’s development, particularly through strategic investments that have delivered measurable outcomes across key sectors.
Mrs. Kafeero commended the Republic of Korea for its continued support in priority areas including education, agriculture, e-governance, capacity building, health, and infrastructure development. She noted that these interventions have contributed meaningfully to improving livelihoods and strengthening institutional capacity across the country.
The meeting also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in public diplomacy, recognizing its growing importance in fostering stronger people-to-people connections. Both parties emphasised that enhanced public engagement can play a critical role in promoting tourism, facilitating investment flows, and advancing mutually beneficial partnerships between Uganda and Korea. The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations through practical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and sustained dialogue, with a view to supporting inclusive growth and long-term development.
