Kampala, Uganda – On 14 March 2026 at ONOMO Hotel, the British Council offered a vibrant demonstration of how culture and creativity can serve as powerful tools of innovation, sustainability, and cultural diplomacy. Bringing together designers, creative practitioners, and industry stakeholders, the showcase celebrated the emerging generation of Ugandan fashion talent while highlighting the expanding role of the creative industries in shaping the country’s cultural and economic narrative.

The Creative DNA programme supports early-stage fashion brands by equipping designers with the professional skills, mentorship, and networks necessary to grow sustainable businesses. Through training sessions, industry engagement, and collaborative learning, participating creatives are guided to refine their design identity while exploring environmentally responsible approaches to production. The programme therefore reflects a broader commitment to strengthening Uganda’s creative economy while encouraging designers to integrate sustainability into contemporary fashion practice.

A central highlight of the showcase was the unveiling of a sustainable capsule collection developed collectively by the participating designers. Using repurposed fabrics provided through the programme, the designers transformed existing materials into modern, high-fashion pieces ready for both local and international markets. The collection demonstrated how innovation within the fashion sector can reduce environmental impact while inspiring new design possibilities grounded in creativity and resourcefulness.

Beyond the runway, the event illustrated the professional journey of Creative DNA beneficiaries. Designers have been able to develop practical business skills, connect with mentors and industry peers, and access platforms such as exhibitions, pop-up markets, and public showcases that increase brand visibility and open new market opportunities. Importantly, the showcase underscored fashion’s growing role as a channel of cultural diplomacy. By presenting contemporary Ugandan creativity to wider audiences, the initiative strengthens cultural exchange and international partnerships while positioning Uganda’s creative sector as a dynamic contributor to global cultural dialogue.
