Djibouti, Djibouti – The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, held consultations with H.E. Dr. Kamil El-Tayeb Idris, Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, to discuss the prevailing peace and security situation in the country. The meeting was held in the Republic of Djibouti, providing an opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on the ongoing efforts to restore stability, address urgent humanitarian challenges, and promote an inclusive and sustainable peace process. The discussions underscored the critical importance of regional cooperation, constructive dialogue, and collective responsibility in resolving the current crisis and safeguarding the well-being and dignity of the Sudanese people.
The IGAD Secretariat, through its Executive Secretary, strongly condemns all forms of violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and reiterates its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of the Sudan, as well as the preservation of its existing national institutions. IGAD further calls upon the Republic of Sudan to return to the Organisation and warmly welcomes Sudan’s National Initiative aimed at restoring peace, stability, and constitutional order. The Secretariat emphasises that a Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned political process remains essential to achieving lasting peace and national reconciliation.
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development reaffirms its readiness to welcome the Republic of the Sudan back into its institutional framework and expresses its continued commitment to supporting Sudan through diplomatic engagement, mediation efforts, and enhanced regional cooperation, in pursuit of durable peace, security, and stability for the benefit of the Sudanese people and the wider region.
