Cheptegei’s success has also inspired fellow athletes to embrace road racing, a demanding discipline that requires discipline, resilience, and long-term commitment. His training partner, Abel Sikowo, observed that road racing remains a challenge for many athletes due to its rigorous preparation and physical demands. However, he acknowledged that Cheptegei’s achievements have helped shift perceptions. “This win shows that success is possible when athletes commit fully and believe in the process,” Sikowo said. The President of the Uganda Athletics Federation, Dominic Otuchet, commended Cheptegei for what he described as another significant milestone in an already distinguished career. “This is a remarkable performance and a clear indication of Cheptegei’s continued progress. We are proud of him and confident that he will achieve even greater success on the road and in marathon racing,” Otuchet said. Cheptegei’s victory in Dubai not only reinforces his growing reputation as he transitions to road and marathon events but also serves as a powerful example of sports diplomacy, strengthening international ties and projecting Uganda’s values of excellence, resilience, and unity through athletics.
