Bamberg, Germany – Uganda’s rich coffee heritage took center stage at the Uganda Coffee Cupping Event, held at the Bamberg Tourism Center, as the nation celebrated its globally renowned Arabica and Robusta beans.
Organised in partnership with the Uganda Embassy in Berlin and Littlefarms, a Ugandan coffee exporter based in Nakasongola, the event brought together international buyers, specialty roasters, and coffee enthusiasts for an immersive tasting experience.
Representing the Head of Mission, Ambassador Stephen Mubiru, Ms. Jessica Namuddu, the Embassy’s Tourism Representative, emphasised Uganda’s commitment to growing its coffee sector. “Coffee is more than a commodity for Uganda it is part of our identity, a lifeline for millions of farmers, and a bridge to international partnerships. We are determined to position Uganda as a global brand for quality coffee,” she said.
The event provided a strategic platform for Littlefarms’ exporter, Mr. Tom Kalyesubula, to engage directly with potential buyers, fostering trade opportunities and reinforcing Uganda’s reputation as a leading African coffee producer.
Guests enjoyed a curated cupping session led by three renowned Bamberg-based roasters — Mr. Daniel Gerlach, Founder of Seven Hills Coffee Roasters and three-time German National Latte Art Champion, Mr. Patrick Baer of Wicked´N´Mellow Specialty Coffee, and Mr. Alexander Gäcklein of M.A.G Roasters.
The experts showcased the diverse flavor profiles of Ugandan coffee, from bold, naturally grown Robusta to aromatic highland Arabica, with a striking Latte Art demonstration by Mr. Gerlach highlighting the beans’ versatility.
City officials, including Mr. Michael Heger, Director of Tourism, and Mrs. Ulrike Siebenhaar, Head of the Department of World Heritage, Culture, and Tourism, lauded the initiative for promoting sustainable farming, cultural richness, and Uganda’s potential as a tourism destination.
The Uganda Coffee Cupping Event marks a significant step in Uganda’s efforts to expand its global coffee footprint, ensuring that each cup enjoyed internationally supports communities and livelihoods at home.
