The Governments of Uganda and the United States of America signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding on December 10, 2025, valued at $ 2.3 billion, aimed at strengthening Uganda’s health sector, and forging stronger bilateral ties between Uganda and the USA.
While delivering his remarks at the ceremony, H.E. William Popp, US Ambassador to Uganda, shared that this initiative signifies joint efforts in global health priorities by building on previous accomplishments by encouraging independent work in the health sector through robust community health systems, transparent performance metrics, and a fundamental commitment to data systems and global health security.
Minister of Finance, Planning and National Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija acknowledged the government’s position on prevention of merging and existing diseases while noting the budget allocation of $1.7 billion from 2026-2030, sharing that this will result in improvement in the health national systems and capacity, aside from disease-specific outcomes.
The MoU encompasses various sections to ensure stable sustainability within the health sector. These include commodities, frontline health workers, data systems, faith-based providers, and co-investment.
