Uganda Reaffirms Strong Ties with Madagascar at 66th Independence Anniversary Celebrations

Antananarivo, Madagascar – Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Madagascar and advancing regional cooperation, following its participation in the 66th anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Madagascar’s return to independence. Representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, attended the national celebrations held in Antananarivo, where he conveyed the President’s warm congratulations to the Government and people of Madagascar on the historic occasion.

The celebrations brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and invited guests to commemorate Madagascar’s return to independence and reflected on the country’s journey of nation-building and development over the past 66 years.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Kasolo said Uganda highly values its longstanding friendship and cooperation with Madagascar, noting that the two countries continue to enjoy cordial diplomatic relations built on mutual respect and shared African values. He said the occasion reaffirmed the enduring bonds between Uganda and Madagascar while underscoring the importance of strengthening collaboration in pursuit of regional integration, peace and sustainable development across the African continent.

Hon. Kasolo emphasised that Uganda remains committed to working closely with Madagascar through bilateral engagements as well as regional and continental frameworks to promote stability, economic cooperation and inclusive development. He noted that stronger partnerships among African nations are essential for addressing common challenges, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and advancing the objectives of the African Union Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Ag. Minister further reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to fostering unity and solidarity among African states, describing regional cooperation as a critical pillar for achieving sustainable economic growth and lasting peace across the continent. On behalf of President Museveni and the people of Uganda, Hon. Kasolo extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Madagascar on the 66th anniversary of their return to independence and wished the island nation continued peace, unity and prosperity.

Uganda’s participation in the celebrations reflects the country’s continued commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with Madagascar and supporting Africa’s collective aspirations for deeper regional integration, mutual prosperity and sustainable development.
