Entebbe, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni bid farewell to His Excellency Matthias Schauer, the outgoing Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Uganda, during a courtesy meeting at State House Entebbe. Ambassador Schauer was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Katharina Schauer.

President Museveni commended Ambassador Schauer for his dedicated service and contribution to strengthening Uganda-Germany relations during his nearly six-year tenure, which began in July 2020. The President wished him success in his future endeavors and thanked him for fostering cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, discussions touched on Uganda’s sovereignty law and the importance of countries managing their internal affairs independently. President Museveni emphasised that foreign interference in domestic politics has historically contributed to instability in several countries and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty. “There was always a need for this law. Leave us alone, let us make our own mistakes and learn from them,” President Museveni stated.

Ambassador Schauer congratulated President Museveni on his re-election and praised Uganda’s people for their warmth and hospitality. He highlighted Uganda’s strong culture of voluntary blood donation, noting his own participation as a blood donor at Nakasero Hospital. The Ambassador also commended Uganda’s preparedness in responding to health emergencies, particularly Ebola outbreaks. Reflecting on his time in the country, he described Uganda as a welcoming nation that would remain close to his heart as he prepares for retirement following the completion of his diplomatic assignment. Mrs. Katharina Schauer echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude for the friendships and experiences gained during their stay and affirming that Uganda would always remain in their hearts.
