Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Uganda has reinforced its commitment to advancing regional cooperation on social affairs following its active participation in the 1st Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council on Social Affairs, held in Tanzania, from 2–7 July 2026.
The Ugandan delegation was led by Amb. Anne Katusiime, Consul General of the Uganda Consulate in Arusha. The session brought together senior government officials from EAC Partner States to deliberate on key social development priorities aimed at strengthening regional integration and improving the welfare of citizens across the Community.
The meeting concluded with a Ministerial Session, chaired by Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga Alitwala, Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of East African Community Affairs and Chairperson of the EAC Council of Ministers. Hon. Simon Mulongo, Uganda’s Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, led the country’s ministerial delegation during the session.
Also in attendance were Amb. Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Mr. Patrick Michael Ayota, Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Uganda, and other heads of government institutions.
The meeting provided a platform for Partner States to review progress and strengthen collaboration on social affairs, including labour, social protection and related regional initiatives. Uganda’s strong representation reflected the country’s continued commitment to promoting policies that enhance social welfare, inclusive development and regional integration. The outcomes of the meeting further underscored the importance of collective action in addressing shared social challenges and advancing the East African Community’s vision of a prosperous, people-centred and integrated region.
