NAIROBI, KENYA
Brig. Gen. McDans Kamugira, Uganda’s Defence Attaché, had the distinct honour of representing the Uganda High Commission at the 2025 Japanese Self-Defence Forces (JSDF) Day celebration held in Nairobi. The event, hosted on 6 November 2025 at Riverside Paddocks, was organised at the invitation of the Ambassador of Japan to Kenya, H.E. Hiroshi Matsuura. Brig. Gen. Kamugira’s participation underscored Uganda’s continued commitment to enhancing bilateral defence cooperation with Japan.
JSDF Day is an annual occasion on which Japan honours the establishment and service of its Self-Defence Forces. The Nairobi reception brought together a distinguished gathering of defence attachés, diplomats, and senior officials from various government institutions. The event provided a platform for strengthening diplomatic and military ties, sharing perspectives on peace and security, and reaffirming Japan’s engagement with partner countries across the region.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Matsuura welcomed guests and highlighted the importance of collaboration in promoting international peace, stability, and mutual understanding. The gathering also offered an opportunity for defence representatives to reflect on Japan’s evolving security partnerships and its contributions to global humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts.
Brig. Gen. Kamugira conveyed Uganda’s appreciation for the longstanding cooperation with Japan, particularly in areas of defence capacity-building, training, and technology support. His presence at the event demonstrated Uganda’s readiness to continue working closely with Japan in advancing shared security priorities.
As a formal diplomatic reception, the JSDF Day celebration was reserved for invited guests, providing an exclusive environment for strengthening professional networks and deepening bilateral relations.
Uganda’s participation in this year’s commemoration reflects the country’s broader objective of fostering meaningful defence diplomacy and expanding partnerships that contribute to regional and global security.
