Beijing, China – The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing ushered in 2026 in grand style alongside the Ugandan Diaspora community in China during the Enkuuka 2025 End-of-Year Celebration. The colorful event took place on 31 December 2025 at the Kempinski Beijing Yansha Centre and was held under the theme, “Building Synergies for Personal Growth and National Development.”
The celebration brought together members of the Ugandan community for an evening marked by unity, reflection, and festivity. It provided a unique platform for Ugandans in China to reconnect, celebrate their shared identity, and reflect on their collective role in Uganda’s development. The program featured welcome remarks, a keynote address, vibrant Ugandan cultural showcases, poetry recitals, fashion displays, music and dance performances, as well as engaging games that kept the audience energised throughout the night. Guests were treated to a festive dinner and later joined in a joyful midnight countdown to welcome the New Year, symbolising unity, hope, and renewed commitment to strengthening the diaspora community and national pride.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Embassy and the Government of Uganda, Mrs. Bernadette Mwesige Ssempa, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., commended the Ugandan Diaspora in China for its resilience, unity, and professionalism. “The Ugandan diaspora in China remains a resilient and united force, proudly carrying Uganda’s identity abroad. Your contributions through investment, skills transfer and positive representation are vital to Uganda’s national development,” Mrs. Ssempa said. She stressed the strategic importance of the diaspora in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and encouraged sustained engagement through investment, innovation, and knowledge exchange. As Uganda enters 2026, she called upon Ugandans in China to continue fostering strong synergies among themselves and with their homeland to drive personal growth, national progress, and shared prosperity.
A major highlight of the evening was the Awards and Recognitions Ceremony, which honored outstanding Ugandans for excellence, leadership, and exceptional service to the community. The awards celebrated individuals whose dedication has strengthened unity, promoted Ugandan values, and positively represented the country in China.The Embassy applauded the diaspora’s achievements and extended warm New Year greetings to all Ugandans in China. It expressed optimism for peace, progress, partnership, and shared prosperity in 2026, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening diaspora engagement, promoting Ugandan culture, mobilising investment, and advancing people-to-people diplomacy.
