Copenhagen, Denmark – The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Copenhagen joined fellow African diplomatic missions, international organisations, development partners, and the diplomatic community in commemorating Africa Day 2026 at the United Nations Offices in Denmark on 18 June 2026. Held under the theme, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063”, the event highlighted Africa’s collective commitment to advancing sustainable development through strengthened cooperation on water security, environmental resilience, public health, and inclusive socio-economic transformation.
The annual commemoration provided an important platform to showcase Africa’s cultural diversity, development achievements, and shared aspirations under the African Union’s Agenda 2063 while fostering dialogue on collaborative approaches to addressing the continent’s development priorities. As part of the celebrations, the Uganda Embassy showcased the country’s diverse investment, tourism, and cultural opportunities through an exhibition featuring Uganda’s premium coffee, traditional arts and crafts, locally produced food products, and a tasting session of Uganda Waragi. The exhibition promoted Uganda’s growing profile as an attractive destination for trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange, consistent with the country’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy agenda.
The Embassy engaged visitors on Uganda’s favourable investment climate, expanding tourism sector, and value-added export opportunities, reaffirming the country’s commitment to leveraging public diplomacy and strategic partnerships to support sustainable economic growth and national development. Addressing participants, Mr. Henrik Fredborg Larsen, Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nordic Representation Office, provided an update on the Ebola situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. He noted that Uganda had successfully contained the outbreak and had been officially declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organization, underscoring the country’s strong public health systems, coordinated emergency response, and commitment to regional health security.
Mr. Larsen further emphasised that responding to infectious disease outbreaks is a shared global responsibility, observing that epidemics transcend national borders and require sustained international cooperation, coordinated action, and solidarity among governments, development partners, and multilateral institutions. Uganda’s participation in the Africa Day celebrations reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement with Denmark and the Nordic region while advancing partnerships that promote trade, investment, tourism, cultural diplomacy, and sustainable development. The event also reinforced the importance of collective action in ensuring sustainable water resources and safe sanitation systems as essential enablers for achieving the aspirations of Agenda 2063, the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and Africa’s long-term socio-economic transformation.
