London, UK – Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo delivered a remarkable performance at the 2026 London Marathon, finishing third in a fiercely competitive field and setting a new personal best. Kiplimo crossed the finish line in 2:00:28, improving on his previous best of 2:02:23, which he recorded while winning the 2025 Chicago Marathon. Despite the impressive time, he had to settle for bronze behind Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe and Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha.

Sawe produced a historic run, becoming the first athlete to complete a competitive marathon in under two hours, clocking an extraordinary 1:59:30. Kejelcha also impressed, as the top three runners all finished faster than the previous course record of 2:00:35 set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023. The late Kiptum’s record had stood as a benchmark for elite marathon performance, making this year’s race one of the fastest in history. Elsewhere, Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei placed 12th with a time of 2:06:39, adding another solid performance for the nation on the global stage.
