Uganda Embassy Tokyo successfully concluded the inaugural Japan Tourism Familiarisation (FAM) Trip to Uganda, marking a significant step in efforts to position Uganda as a destination of choice for Japanese travellers and investors. The initiative brought together Japanese tourism stakeholders, media personalities, content creators, and Uganda tour operators based in Japan for an immersive experience of Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings. Over five days, the delegation explored some of the country’s iconic attractions, including the Source of the Nile, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and community based tourism initiatives.

Beyond showcasing Uganda’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, the FAM Trip served as a strategic platform to strengthen tourism linkages, enhance destination awareness, and unlock opportunities within the Japanese market. As one of Uganda’s key sectors for foreign exchange earnings, employment, and investment, tourism continues to present immense potential for economic transformation.

The successful completion of the programme not only provided participants with authentic experiences of the Pearl of Africa but also created a network of tourism ambassadors expected to influence travel decisions and amplify Uganda’s visibility in Japan. The initiative underscored Uganda’s commitment to leveraging tourism diplomacy to drive sustainable growth and deepen bilateral cooperation with Japan.
