Kampala, Uganda – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Hon. Adonia Ayebare, received the copies of the Letters of Credence of H.E. Wu Guangrong, Ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China to Uganda at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Kampala. The presentation of the copies of the Letters of Credence marked an important step in the formal accreditation of the Ambassador and reaffirmed the longstanding diplomatic relations between Uganda and the People’s Republic of China.
During the engagement, the Minister welcomed Ambassador Wu to Uganda and conveyed the Government’s readiness to work closely with him in further strengthening the cordial and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries. The meeting provided an opportunity to underscore the importance Uganda attaches to its partnership with China across areas of mutual interest. Uganda and China have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with cooperation extending across trade and investment, infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, industrialisation, science and technology, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The presentation also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of strengthening economic and commercial cooperation. Uganda continues to seek expanded market access for its products, increased investment, technology transfer and partnerships that support value addition and industrial development. The two countries have also maintained strong cooperation in education and human capital development, including scholarship opportunities for Ugandan students in Chinese institutions. Such exchanges have contributed to skills development and strengthened people-to-people links between the two countries.
The Minister and Ambassador further recognised the value of continued high-level political engagement and diplomatic consultations in advancing shared interests and addressing emerging global and regional challenges. The accreditation of Ambassador Wu Guangrong is therefore an opportunity to further consolidate the Uganda–China partnership and identify new areas of cooperation aligned with Uganda’s national development priorities.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to deepen bilateral engagement and promote practical outcomes in diplomacy, trade, investment, development cooperation, education, technology and people-to-people relations. The presentation of the Letters of Credence marked not only the beginning of Ambassador Wu’s diplomatic assignment in Uganda, but also another step in the continued strengthening of the enduring friendship and cooperation between Uganda and China.
