Kampala, Uganda – Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune the Ag. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Co-operation), received copies of the Letters of Credence from H.E. Lee Sang-ho, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uganda, marking the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Uganda.
Welcoming Ambassador Lee, Hon. Kasolo congratulated him on his appointment and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and cordial relations between Uganda and the Republic of Korea. He underscored Uganda’s interest in expanding diplomatic engagement with the Republic of Korea to deepen cooperation across political, economic, trade, investment, and socio-cultural sectors.
The Ag. Minister further highlighted the strategic importance of collaboration in digital transformation, innovation, and emerging technologies as key drivers of inclusive economic growth and employment for Uganda’s youthful population. He also encouraged increased Korean investment in agro-processing and value addition, particularly in rural communities, while emphasizing Uganda’s interest in expanding market access for high-quality Ugandan exports, including coffee, fresh produce, and other agricultural commodities, to the Korean market.
Ambassador Lee expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome accorded to him and conveyed his readiness to commence his diplomatic assignment in Uganda. He reaffirmed the Republic of Korea’s commitment to further consolidating the enduring friendship between the two countries, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in agriculture, trade, investment, education, and other areas of mutual interest.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing a dynamic and mutually beneficial bilateral partnership, guided by common interests, sustainable development, and enhanced people-to-people cooperation. They expressed confidence that Uganda–Republic of Korea relations would continue to grow through expanded diplomatic engagement, increased economic cooperation, and stronger institutional partnerships.
