Kampala, Uganda – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) following the presentation of credentials by Ms. Wanja Kaaria Ndoho, the newly appointed WFP Resident Representative to Uganda. The credentials ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, marked the beginning of Ms. Ndoho’s official mission in Uganda and underscored the shared commitment of the Government of Uganda and WFP to advancing food security, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development.
Welcoming the new Resident Representative, Hon. Kasolo congratulated Ms. Ndoho on her appointment and expressed confidence in her leadership. He reaffirmed Uganda’s appreciation for WFP’s longstanding partnership, particularly in supporting vulnerable communities, strengthening resilience, and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
The Acting Minister highlighted Uganda’s prevailing peace and stability as key enablers of agricultural production and economic growth. He noted that the country’s favourable climate and year-round agricultural potential position Uganda as an important contributor to regional food security. He further emphasised the Government’s commitment to working closely with international partners to transform agriculture, enhance food systems, and improve livelihoods.
In her remarks, Ms. Ndoho reaffirmed the World Food Programme’s commitment to deepening its collaboration with the Government of Uganda. She outlined WFP’s priorities, which include expanding local food procurement, supporting smallholder farmers, strengthening school feeding programmes, and investing in initiatives that build community resilience and improve food security. Ms. Ndoho also acknowledged Uganda’s growing role as a dependable food basket for the region, noting that the country’s agricultural capacity presents significant opportunities to strengthen regional food systems while supporting sustainable economic development.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their shared commitment to further strengthening the partnership between Uganda and the World Food Programme. The collaboration will continue to focus on enhancing food security, supporting vulnerable populations, promoting sustainable agriculture, and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The presentation of credentials reflects Uganda’s continued engagement with international development partners and its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that advance national development priorities while reinforcing regional and global cooperation.
