Uganda reinforced its growing presence on the global agricultural stage through a strong and coordinated participation at Macfrut 2026, held in Rimini from April 21 to 23. The international exhibition, hosted at the Rimini Expo Centre, brought together key players across the global fruit and vegetable value chain, attracting exhibitors and buyers from more than 80 countries.

Led by the Uganda Embassy in Rome, the Ugandan delegation comprised over 45 exhibitors, including leading exporters such as Agritrade, Hortifresh, and the East Africa Entrepreneurs Association. Their participation highlighted Uganda’s strategic ambition to expand its footprint in European markets and position itself as a reliable supplier of high-quality fresh produce. Additionally, the exhibition provided a timely platform to promote Uganda’s thriving horticulture sector.

Benefiting from fertile soils and favorable climatic conditions, the country showcased premium fruits including mangoes, pineapples, passion fruits, and avocados products that continue to gain traction in European markets. The delegation also enriched the experience by offering coffee tastings, presenting Uganda’s renowned coffee heritage to international buyers and stakeholders.

Macfrut, widely recognised as a global meeting point for the fruit and vegetable supply chain, enabled Ugandan exporters to engage directly with buyers, investors, and trade partners, while exploring new market opportunities. The event was officially inaugurated by Francesco Lollobrigida, who emphasised the need for resilience and international cooperation in addressing global agricultural challenges.

The Ugandan delegation was led by Ambassador Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, Head of Mission in Rome, who actively engaged European partners to strengthen export linkages and investment prospects. She underscored the importance of maintaining high product quality, improving logistics, and enhancing collaboration across the agricultural value chain to meet international standards. Beyond trade promotion, the Embassy used the platform to encourage investment in Uganda’s agro-industrial sector, with the aim of driving economic growth, creating employment, and supporting sustainable development. A working dinner organised on the sidelines of the exhibition further fostered collaboration between Ugandan exhibitors and diplomatic representatives. Uganda’s participation at Macfrut 2026 reflected a clear commitment to innovation, quality assurance, and global market expansion, positioning the country as an emerging force in the international fresh produce market.
