Kampala, Uganda – On March 9, 2026, the Italian Trade Agency launched the Lab Innova for Africa “Luca Attanasio” project in Kampala, a five-day training program aimed at equipping Ugandan businesses with skills to modernise their agribusiness and information technology operations.
The program was inaugurated in Nakasero by H.E Mauro Massoni, the Italian Ambassador to Uganda, alongside Deputy Ambassador Giulio Michele Girardelli. It brought together entrepreneurs, agribusiness innovators, and technology professionals to engage with Italian experts on practical approaches to business development and cross-border trade.
The initiative provided an integrated framework of professional training and technical assistance designed to support the growth and internationalization of African enterprises. It uniquely combined agribusiness and ICT, helping participants adopt modern technologies, improve efficiency, and strengthen competitiveness in both local and international markets. Amb. Massoni noted that the initiative reflects Italy’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Uganda and supporting innovation-driven development. He emphasised that collaboration between Uganda and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation continues to create opportunities for knowledge exchange, investment, and technological advancement, particularly in agriculture, which remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy.
Officials indicated that the training will focus on agricultural mechanization, the application of advanced technologies in farming, and strategies to strengthen Agri-food enterprises. Participants also received guidance on improving productivity, adding value to products, and expanding access to international markets. Deputy Amb. Girardelli highlighted the program’s practical orientation, noting that it is intended to equip African entrepreneurs with the skills needed to modernize their businesses and build sustainable enterprises. Organizers say the project is expected to strengthen Uganda’s agribusiness ecosystem by fostering innovation, improving production efficiency, and enhancing trade links between Uganda and Italy, while supporting enterprises to scale and access global markets.
