Arusha, Tanzania – The Uganda Consulate in Arusha continued to play a strategic role in promoting the on earlier efforts initiated in February 2025 during the Kilimanjaro Marathon. This platform provided an opportunity to introduce the Rwenzori Marathon to the Tanzanian market, complemented by outreach activities at the Karibu Kili Fair, one of Africa’s prominent tourism exhibitions. These initiatives contributed to a notable increase in Tanzanian participation, rising from a single runner in 2024 to 18 participants in 2025. 

In 2026, the Consulate has reinforced this collaboration at the Kilimanjaro Marathon that was held in Moshi from 20th to 22nd March. A branded exhibition tent was established to showcase Uganda’s tourism and cultural offerings, enhancing visibility among regional and international audiences. Activities included a community Fun Run on 21st March, as well as early registration for the 2026 Rwenzori Marathon.

Through these engagements, the Consulate continues to position Uganda as an emerging destination for sports tourism. The Rwenzori Marathon’s recognition by World Athletics  and its inclusion on the global calendar further reinforced its international standing. Uniquely, the marathon remains the only race in the world that begins at the Equator, offering participants a distinctive experience set against one of Africa’s most scenic landscapes.
