Jinja, Uganda – The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, held high-level talks with the Algerian Ambassador to Uganda, Mourad Amokrane, marking a meaningful step in sub-national diplomacy that underscored Uganda’s growing engagement with global partners through culture, people-to-people exchange and inclusive development.
The meeting was convened, at the Kyabazinga’s Igenge Palace in Jinja City, focused on strengthening cooperation between Busoga and Algeria in education, culture, agriculture, health and trade. It reflected a shared recognition that cultural institutions and local leadership can play a vital role in advancing international cooperation alongside state-to-state relations.
During the discussions, the Kyabazinga emphasised Busoga’s readiness to engage internationally, particularly in areas that empower young people and preserve cultural identity while opening pathways to global opportunity. He highlighted education partnerships, cultural exchanges and language training, including French, as practical tools to equip Busoga’s youth with skills for regional and international engagement. Such initiatives, he noted, would support innovation, entrepreneurship and cross-cultural understanding.
Amb. Amokrane commended Busoga’s rich cultural heritage and its role in Uganda’s social and historical fabric. He reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Uganda and its regions, describing culture as a powerful bridge for dialogue, trust and sustainable partnerships. He noted that collaboration in agriculture, health and trade could complement cultural ties by creating tangible economic benefits for communities.
Uganda’s Ambassador to Algeria, Julius Joshua Kivuna, welcomed the engagement and expressed readiness to facilitate structured follow-up between Busoga and Algerian institutions. He underscored the importance of translating goodwill into practical arrangements that support skills development, market access and knowledge exchange, in line with Uganda’s broader development and foreign policy objectives.
Beyond bilateral cooperation, the engagement positioned Busoga as an emerging destination for cultural tourism and investment. With its deep historical roots, vibrant traditions and strategic location in eastern Uganda, Busoga offers opportunities for investors and visitors interested in culture-led development, agribusiness and community-based tourism. Strengthening international partnerships at the cultural level contributes to a positive national image and reinforces Uganda’s reputation as a welcoming, stable and diverse destination.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts between the Kyabazinga and the Algerian Ambassador, symbolising mutual respect and a shared commitment to closer ties. As Uganda continues to pursue inclusive and diversified diplomacy, such engagements highlighted how culture can anchor international relations, foster youth empowerment and open new avenues for sustainable growth on the global stage.
