Kampala, Uganda – Uganda has reinforced its diplomatic engagement with Grenada following the presentation of Copies of Letters of Credence by Ms. Samalie Nambooze, Honorary Consul designate of Grenada to the Republic of Uganda. The ceremony was held in Kampala on 28 January 2026 and was officiated by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Henry Okello Oryem.

Hon. Oryem welcomed the appointment, noting the important role played by Honorary Consuls in advancing bilateral relations, particularly where resident diplomatic missions are not in place. He emphasized that such representation is essential for sustaining dialogue, facilitating cooperation, and promoting people-centered diplomacy. The Minister reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Uganda and Grenada, which dates back to 1974, and highlighted the value of continued collaboration at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms. “Uganda values partnerships that foster trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchange,” Hon. Oryem said, pointing to opportunities for cooperation in tourism development, hospitality exchange programmes, professional skills training, and health-sector collaboration. He further observed that Grenada’s strong global profile as a tourism destination presents meaningful prospects for shared learning and joint promotion initiatives.

The meeting also explored avenues for enhancing connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean to support travel, trade, and investment, in line with broader efforts to strengthen South–South cooperation. In her remarks, Ms. Samalie Nambooze expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening Uganda–Grenada relations. She noted that her role would focus on consolidating bilateral engagement and supporting cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral arenas, with the aim of delivering practical benefits to both countries.
