Guangzhou, China – The Consulate of the Republic of Uganda in Guangzhou successfully hosted the exclusive premiere screening of the documentary series “Back to the Source – The Nile” on the evening of December 12, 2025, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s cultural diplomacy and tourism promotion efforts in China.

The high-profile event brought together approximately 300 distinguished guests, including Chinese investors from key economic centers such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, officials from Ugandan government parastatals, leaders of the Ugandan diaspora in China, and friends of Uganda.

The centerpiece of the evening was the screening of “Back to the Source – The Nile,” guided by Her Excellency Ambassador Judyth Nsababera. The documentary compellingly highlights Uganda’s unique natural and cultural assets, with a focus on:

  • The world-renowned white-water rafting experiences at the Source of the Nile in Jinja
  • The exceptional biodiversity of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas

Speaking at the event, H.E. Ambassador Judyth Nsababera emphasized Uganda’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and expanding tourism and investment cooperation with China, noting that the documentary presents Uganda as a destination of opportunity, adventure, and sustainability.

The premiere also served as a strategic networking platform, facilitating direct engagement between Ugandan diplomatic and parastatal representatives and a strong contingent of Chinese business leaders, reflecting growing interest in Uganda’s tourism, infrastructure, and investment sectors.

The evening was further enhanced by vibrant Ugandan cultural dance performances from the Western and Central regions of the country, offering guests an authentic and immersive experience of Uganda’s rich cultural heritage.

The Consulate acknowledges the invaluable role played by the Ugandan diaspora community in China, whose active participation and advocacy continue to strengthen Uganda–China relations and promote Uganda’s image abroad.

The Consulate of the Republic of Uganda in Guangzhou reaffirms its commitment to advancing Uganda’s visibility in China through innovative cultural diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and sustained engagement with investors, tour operators, and stakeholders.
