The European Union Delegation to Uganda, led by EU Ambassador Jan Sadek, hosted a high-level reception on October 30th, 2025 to mark Green Diplomacy Week, also celebrated locally as EU Green Week 2025. The evening brought together representatives from government, development agencies, civil society, the private sector, and youth innovators, all united by a shared commitment to climate action and sustainable development.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sadek set the tone for the event with an inspiring message: “Tonight, surrounded by Uganda’s own green splendour, we celebrate not just diplomacy but a common vision of a greener world. EU and Uganda stand together to protect what sustains us, to act with foresight and to believe that progress and nature can and must coexist.” His words underscored the EU’s long-standing partnership with Uganda in advancing environmental protection and resilient growth.

A key highlights of the evening was the announcement of a USD 1 million (UGX 3.4 billion) ElectriFI investment in Uganda’s GOGO Electric, a fast-growing local e-mobility company. This new financing brings the EU’s total investment in GOGO Electric to USD 2.6 million, aimed at boosting local e-motorcycle and battery assembly. The initiative is expected to create jobs, support green entrepreneurship, and accelerate Uganda’s transition towards clean transportation.

Ambassador Sadek also applauded the Government of Uganda’s ambitious e-mobility plans, encouraging the public to embrace greener choices. “Remember that we, as customers, have a responsibility to demand environmentally friendly solutions. Next time you need a Boda Boda, please try to catch an electric one,” he urged.

The event reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to Team Europe’s shared vision of a greener Uganda, highlighting the importance of investing in youth-led green innovation and building a more sustainable, climate-resilient future for all.
