Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a high-level delegation from the United Nations Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP), led by Mr. Paulin Djomo, Director of the United Nations Regional Service Centre Entebbe, accompanied by Ms. Esther Ngotho, Administrative Officer. The delegation was received by Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation, the discussions focused on the longstanding collaboration between Uganda and the United Nations in advancing regional and international peace support efforts.
The meeting underscored Uganda’s continued contribution to peacekeeping operations and its role as a strategic partner in supporting international peace, stability, and capacity-building initiatives across Africa and beyond. Particular attention was given to the work of the United Nations Triangular Partnership Programme, a global capacity-building initiative established in 2015 to strengthen the preparedness of uniformed peacekeepers through specialised training in engineering, medical support, and C4ISR technologies Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance.
During the engagement, Mr. Djomo expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda for its consistent support to the Programme and the broader UN peacekeeping architecture. The delegation further highlighted the growing operational demands on the Regional Service Centre Entebbe and the need for expanded infrastructure to support its increasing activities. Officials noted that more than 300 personnel are currently engaged in supporting mission-related operations in Uganda, while over 500 participants are hosted annually in Entebbe for peacekeeping-related capacity-building and specialised training programmes.
In his remarks, Hon. Oryem Henry Okello acknowledged the concerns raised and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to constructive partnership and multilateral cooperation. The Minister noted that Uganda values institutions and partners that contribute to regional peace, stability, and international cooperation, adding that Government would engage the relevant authorities regarding the matter raised. He further emphasised that, where possible and within the existing legal and administrative frameworks, Uganda remains open to supporting initiatives that strengthen international peace operations and regional security collaboration. The Minister also encouraged exploration of additional long-term options that could sustainably support the Programme’s future operational needs.
The Mr. Djomo briefed the Minister on preparations for an upcoming United Nations mission expected to engage with senior Ugandan officials, including the Chief of Defence Forces, the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on matters related to peacekeeping operations and troop reimbursement mechanisms.
The Programme continues to contribute to the development of highly trained peacekeepers capable of rapid deployment to missions under the United Nations and African Union frameworks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Uganda’s enduring commitment to multilateralism, regional stability, and collaborative international partnerships aimed at strengthening peace support mechanisms and sustainable security responses across the continent and globally.
