Kampala, Uganda – On January 6, 2026, the Government of Uganda briefed members of the Diplomatic Corps at the Uganda Media Centre on the country’s preparedness for the forthcoming general elections. The briefing was led by the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, who underscored the government’s commitment to transparency, institutional coordination, and democratic integrity.

Hon. Kabbyanga assured diplomats that Uganda’s electoral framework was firmly in place, with key institutions fully prepared to deliver a credible, inclusive, and lawful electoral process. He emphasised that free and fair elections remain a cornerstone of Uganda’s democratic practice, national cohesion, and long-term stability. According to the Minister, the government recognised the importance of public trust in electoral outcomes and continued to strengthen systems that promote accountability and citizen participation.

The briefing also highlighted the role of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring a peaceful electoral period. Diplomatic partners were informed that relevant state agencies, including security and administrative bodies, were actively engaged in safeguarding the safety and well-being of all residents both Ugandan citizens and foreign nationals before, during, and after the elections. This approach, the Minister noted, reflected Uganda’s commitment to peace, mutual respect, and the rule of law.

Members of the Diplomatic Corps welcomed the engagement, which provided an opportunity for dialogue and reassurance on electoral preparedness. The government reaffirmed its openness to continued cooperation with international partners, emphasizing that inclusive engagement and transparent communication are vital to sustaining democratic governance and regional stability as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.
