Brasília, Brazil – The 4th Meeting of BRICS Sherpas and Sous Sherpas (Coordinators) for 2025 was held from 11 to 12 December in Brasília, in the Federative Republic of Brazil. Uganda participated in the meeting as a BRICS Partner State, represented by Mr. Wafula James Bichachi, Minister Counselor, and Mr. Jimmy Bosco Wataka, Counselor at the Uganda Embassy in Washington, DC.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the 2025 BRICS agenda under the Brazilian Chair and laid the groundwork for a smooth transition as India prepares to assume the BRICS Chairmanship in 2026. Delegates took stock of BRICS activities implemented throughout 2025, guided by the handover report from the Brazilian Presidency.
An interactive dialogue was held on six priority areas central to Global South cooperation: global health, climate change, trade, investment and finance, and artificial intelligence governance. These discussions highlighted shared challenges and opportunities, while emphasizing collective action and inclusive growth.
The meeting also featured active participation from BRICS Partner Countries, reflecting the bloc’s growing outreach and engagement. Additionally, the BRICS People-to-People track presented key achievements from year-long engagements under the Councils of civil society, business, and academia, underscoring the importance of grassroots cooperation.
The meeting concluded with reaffirmation of India’s assumption of the BRICS Chairmanship in 2026, marking the next phase of collaboration within the grouping.
