Brussels, Belgium – Uganda launched its first national coffee brand, “Uganda Coffee: It’s in Our Nature,” at the World of Coffee Brussels exhibition, marking a historic milestone in positioning the country not only as Africa’s leading coffee exporter by volume but also as a premium coffee origin with a distinctive global identity.

The new brand reflects Uganda’s ambition to move beyond exporting coffee as a commodity by promoting its unique heritage, exceptional quality, and rich coffee culture to international buyers, roasters, and consumers. It will serve as a long-term trade promotion platform supporting marketing campaigns, international exhibitions, packaging, and commercial partnerships in key export markets.

Uganda is globally recognized as the birthplace of Robusta coffee and an increasingly important producer of Fine Robusta and high-quality Arabica. According to MAAIF, In the twelve months ending April 2026, the country exported 8.78 million 60kg bags valued at US$2.38 billion, representing significant growth in both volume and value. During April 2026 alone, exports reached 591,687 bags worth US$155.54 million, underlining the continued expansion of Uganda’s coffee sector.

Launching the brand, Hon. Desire Muhooza, Minister of State for Agriculture, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening quality standards, ensuring compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation, and expanding access to European markets. He noted that, in line with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s vision, coffee remains a strategic national asset capable of driving sustainable economic transformation.

At the heart of the campaign is the promise, “It’s in Our Nature,” highlighting both Uganda’s favourable natural environment and the values of its people. The brand tells the story of coffee as an integral part of Uganda’s landscapes, communities, biodiversity, and cultural heritage. Drawing from traditional customs where coffee symbolized trust, reconciliation, and friendship, the campaign presents coffee as an authentic expression of Uganda’s national identity.

The visual identity incorporates coffee beans into the official word mark alongside the Crested Crane, Uganda’s national bird, symbolizing peace, pride, and the country’s natural beauty. The colour palette draws inspiration from Uganda’s national flag and coffee-growing landscapes, creating a modern and instantly recognizable international brand.

As the Portrait Country at World of Coffee Brussels, Uganda enjoys a prominent platform to engage European markets, which accounted for over half of the country’s coffee exports in April 2026. The launch featured cultural performances, traditional music and dance, coffee tasting sessions, and exhibitions showcasing Uganda’s coffee excellence. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, the International Trade Centre, the European Union-funded MARKUP II Programme, and coffee sector stakeholders, Uganda Coffee: It’s in Our Nature marks the beginning of a unified national brand that strengthens Uganda’s global competitiveness, promotes trade and investment, and showcases the country’s position as one of the world’s premier coffee-producing nations.
