Uganda Kenya Forge Stronger Bonds During Jamhuri Celebrations

Kampala, Uganda – On December 12, 2025, Kenyans in Uganda gathered at Sheraton Kampala to mark the 62nd Jamhuri Day, celebrating Kenya’s independence. The event, organised by the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda, highlighted the deepening ties between Uganda and Kenya.
Hon. John Mulimba, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs), noted that Jamhuri Day is not only a celebration of Kenya’s self-rule but also of the shared values that bind the two nations: regional cooperation, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a prosperous East African Community.
He highlighted the long-standing partnership between Uganda and Kenya across key sectors, including trade, education, security, and infrastructure. Mulimba also recalled Kenya’s vital support during Uganda’s difficult times, particularly in hosting refugees and enabling economic recovery after 1986.
Kenya’s High Commissioner, H.E. Joash Maangi, described the day as a moment of reflection and reaffirmation of Kenya’s commitment to regional unity and inclusive development. He emphasised the close diplomatic and economic ties with Uganda, noting that both countries are each other’s top trading partners.
The event drew government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the East African community to celebrate Kenya’s journey and shared regional aspirations.
