Kampala, Uganda – The Department of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a farewell ceremony in honour of Mrs. Margaret Kafeero, outgoing Head of Public Diplomacy, celebrating her exceptional contribution, dedicated service, and leadership in advancing Uganda’s public diplomacy agenda. The ceremony brought together ministry officials, diplomats, media, colleagues, and family members who gathered to recognise Mrs. Kafeero’s remarkable journey and the positive impact she has made in strengthening strategic communication, public engagement, and Uganda’s global image.
In her farewell remarks, Mrs. Kafeero expressed profound appreciation to colleagues, mentors, friends, and family members whose support and collaboration contributed to her professional journey. Reflecting on her time leading the Public Diplomacy Department, she described the team as pieces of a “jigsaw puzzle,” with each bringing unique talents, perspectives, and commitment that collectively contributed to the department’s achievements.
She emphasised that the successes registered by the department were not the work of individuals but the result of teamwork, dedication, and shared commitment to Uganda’s diplomatic objectives. She commended her colleagues for their professionalism, resilience, and willingness to embrace innovation in executing public diplomacy initiatives.
Mrs. Kafeero highlighted mentorship and the growth of young professionals as among her most rewarding experiences in public service. She encouraged officers to remain committed to continuous learning, embrace opportunities, and recognise that excellence is built through dedication, collaboration, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose.
Paying tribute to her family, Mrs. Kafeero acknowledged the invaluable support and sacrifices made by her children, relatives, and friends throughout her diplomatic career. She particularly recognised her husband, Amb. Arthur Kafeero, whom she described as a constant source of encouragement, friendship, and support in balancing the responsibilities of family life and public service.
In his remarks, Ambassador. Arthur Kafeero commended his wife’s commitment, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to serving Uganda. He recognized her role in mentoring younger officers and strengthening public diplomacy as an important instrument for promoting Uganda’s interests and reputation internationally.
Amb. Kafeero appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for providing an enabling environment for Ms. Kafeero to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s diplomatic service. He encouraged officers to uphold values of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and professionalism, which he identified as key pillars of her successful career.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, the Under-Secretary, Mr. Stephen Kyaterekera, expressed appreciation for Ms. Kafeero’s outstanding service and contribution to the department. “Margaret has not only served with professionalism and commitment, but she has also raised the bar of excellence through her work ethic, leadership, and dedication. While we shall miss her presence in the department, we take pride in knowing that she carries these values into her new assignment,” he said. He further pledged the Ministry’s continued support and wished her success as she embarks on her next assignment.
Ms. Kafeero proceeds to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for her new diplomatic posting, carrying with her a legacy of professionalism, mentorship, and commitment to advancing Uganda’s diplomatic interests. The farewell ceremony served as a reflection of the enduring values of public service, leadership, and teamwork that continue to define Uganda’s diplomatic community.
