Kampala, Uganda – The European Union Delegation to Uganda hosted a farewell dinner in honour of Guillaume Chartrain, the outgoing Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Political, Press and Information Affairs, marking the conclusion of his four years of distinguished service in Uganda. The event, held in Kampala, brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, communication professionals, development partners, civil society representatives, and friends of the European Union to celebrate Chartrain’s contribution to strengthening relations between Uganda and the European Union.
Speaking during the occasion, the European Union Ambassador to Uganda, Jan Sadek, paid tribute to Chartrain’s dedication, professionalism, and leadership throughout his tenure. He described him as a trusted deputy ambassador, an accomplished diplomat, and a sharp political analyst whose work significantly enhanced the EU-Uganda partnership. “A trusted Deputy Ambassador, true diplomat and sharp analyst who has strengthened the EU-Uganda partnership, our political work and EU coordination,” Ambassador Sadek remarked. “Merci Guillaume, and every success in the next chapter.” During his tour in Uganda, Chartrain played a key role in advancing political dialogue, supporting development cooperation, promoting democratic governance, and strengthening engagement between the European Union and various stakeholders across the country. His work also contributed to enhancing coordination among EU member states and advancing the collective interests and values of the European Union in Uganda.
The farewell gathering provided an opportunity for colleagues and partners to reflect on his achievements and acknowledge the positive impact he made during his assignment. Speakers highlighted his commitment to diplomacy, constructive engagement, and his ability to foster meaningful relationships with government institutions, development partners, the media, and civil society organizations. The evening was characterised by warm tributes, shared memories, and expressions of appreciation for Chartrain’s contribution to Uganda’s diplomatic landscape. Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Mrs. Margaret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside members of the diplomatic community and communication professionals from various institutions and agencies.
