Kampala, Uganda – H.E. Virgine Leroy, Ambassador of France to Uganda, on 20 February 2026 paid a courtesy call on Hon. Okello Henry Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), to review bilateral and regional priorities. The meeting examined outcomes of the recent African Union Summit, developments regarding South Sudan’s planned elections, and prevailing security dynamics in Somalia. Both sides underscored the importance of coordinated regional and international engagement to promote stability and sustainable peace.

Discussions further reflected on broader cooperation between the European Union and the African Union, including shared approaches to crisis prevention, economic resilience, and governance. Ambassador Leroy reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting African-led initiatives, while Hon. Oryem highlighted Uganda’s readiness to work with partners in addressing evolving security challenges.

The engagement also touched on preparations for the Africa Forward Summit scheduled for May 2026 in Nairobi, migration cooperation under the Khartoum Process, Africa’s representation on the United Nations Security Council, and Uganda’s framework for oil revenue management through its Sovereign Wealth Fund. The meeting reaffirmed the strong and forward-looking partnership between Uganda and France across diplomacy, security, and economic development.
