In a forward-looking push to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance Uganda’s global tourism footprint, the Uganda High Commission in India showcased the country at the Outbound Tourism Mart (OTM) in Mumbai from 5–7 February 2026. This strategic engagement, coordinated alongside the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Airlines, highlighted Uganda’s potential as a premium cultural and eco-tourism destination while fostering long-term diplomatic and economic linkages with India.

Ambassador Prof. Joyce Kikafunda, Uganda’s High Commissioner to New Delhi, opened the event by emphasising India’s role as a gateway for international travelers, noting the rising disposable incomes and growing middle-class demographics that drive outbound tourism. “OTM Mumbai is a golden opportunity for Uganda to increase her visibility and establish herself as a destination of choice,” she said, underlining the event’s ability to convene more than 50,000 trade visitors and 2,200 exhibitors from over 60 countries.

Mr. Brian Mwanika, Head of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy at the High Commission, further highlighted Mumbai’s strategic significance, not only as a central hub for long-haul travelers but also as the epicenter of Bollywood, whose global cultural influence provides a unique platform for tourism promotion. This intersection of commerce, culture, and media presents Uganda with opportunities to engage high-value travelers and diversify inbound tourism streams.

The campaign underscores Uganda’s dual approach: promoting natural and cultural assets while nurturing sustainable diplomatic partnerships. Notably, Indian arrivals to Uganda increased from 34,208 in 2024 to 42,800 in 2025, reflecting a positive trajectory aligned with global tourism trends and targeted outreach strategies.

Beyond promotion, Uganda’s presence at OTM Mumbai reinforces the country’s commitment to cultural diplomacy, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnership development. Initiatives such as ongoing discussions for a formal MoU on tourism collaboration with Indian counterparts further signal Uganda’s intent to institutionalize these gains. By positioning Mumbai as a strategic hub, Uganda is advancing a model of tourism diplomacy that aligns national interests with global cultural and economic currents, enhancing its standing as a preferred destination and a proactive partner in the international tourism ecosystem.
