The Uganda Diaspora in Agribusiness Network (UDAN), in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, has officially launched the Diaspora in Agribusiness for Climate Action Awards 2025. The new initiative celebrates the growing influence of Ugandans abroad who are investing in climate-smart agribusiness ventures that strengthen the country’s food systems and advance sustainable development.

The Awards aim to spotlight exceptional individuals and organisations within the Ugandan diaspora whose innovations are driving climate action, promoting technology adoption, and contributing to resilient agricultural practices back home. UDAN says the programme is designed not only to honour outstanding achievers but also to inspire more diaspora-led investment in agriculture as Uganda intensifies efforts to address climate change.

According to the organisers, the 2025 edition will recognise three outstanding winners. Each will receive a cash prize, exclusive farm tours in Uganda, and formal recognition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 2025 Uganda Diaspora Convention. The Awards will highlight projects that demonstrate measurable impact in areas such as sustainable farming, agro-processing, renewable energy in agriculture, water efficiency, and climate-resilient innovations.

UDAN noted that the launch reinforces the critical role played by the Ugandan diaspora in shaping the nation’s agribusiness future. With climate shocks increasingly affecting food production, diaspora-led ventures are helping introduce modern solutions, expand market opportunities, and support rural livelihoods.

The partnership with FAO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening diaspora engagement as part of Uganda’s broader climate adaptation strategy. By recognising exemplary contributions, the Awards seek to encourage continued collaboration and greater investment in climate-smart agriculture.

The Diaspora in Agribusiness for Climate Action Awards 2025 ultimately aim to amplify success stories and motivate more Ugandans abroad to participate in transforming the country’s agricultural landscape one innovation at a time.
